Jonathan Reid was a (nine) 9 year old boy killed after receiving an overdose of his asthma medication while being falsely detanied in foster care on June 9, 1997.
The Jonathan Reid Family Rights Coalition was estabished on October 7, 1997, after Jonathan's death. Allegations filed by Department of Children and Family Services against his mother, Debra Reid were dismissed in Dependency Court. The death of Jonathan and his false detained in foster care resulted in a wrongful death and a civil rights violation lawsult, which lead to public dicussions on reforming the Department of Children and Family Services.
The Coalition and Debra Reid have received numerous local, state and federal recognition for their advocacy work, and as service providers to improve the outcomes of families involved with the Department of Children and Family Services.
In 2006, the Jonathan Reid Family Rights Coalition expanded it's services to include legal document assistance as non-lawyers to prepare legal documents for those that represent themselves in Family Law matters.
